Knowing When to Sail the Virgin Islands
You can make a strong case for sailing the sparkling turquoise waters of the BVI and USVI nearly any time of the year. Whether you want to enjoy “champagne sailing” or take advantage of off-peak deals, there are reasons to visit the Virgin Islands no matter the season.
Here is a quick look at each sailing season:
- Peak Season (December – April): Sailors can expect to enjoy the calmest waters in the Caribbean. Winds usually don’t exceed 15 knots, and you should get lots of sunshine when you sail.
- Shoulder Season (May and November): Budget-minded sailors can save money without missing out on some of the best sailing conditions during shoulder season. These months generally offer nice weather, and you can usually find deals on flights and accommodations.
- Hurricane Season (August – October): This time of year is not only cheaper, but experienced sailors can challenge themselves during larger swells. Don’t worry, Go Sail VI will never take you out sailing if a hurricane is forecasted in the near future.
- Sailing Events (March – April): These months are home to the best sailing events in the Caribbean! If you want to take part in the action and watch the best sailors in the Virgin Islands and beyond, learn more here.
