How to Celebrate the 4th of July 2025 in the USVI

A few things are synonymous with the 4th of July, one of which we can’t recommend enough—sailing. The Virgin Islands are the perfect place to celebrate the holiday while building nautical miles. The crowds thin out, and hurricane season hasn’t hit its peak yet, making the summer holiday a great time to sail.

If you are considering a trip to the Caribbean on Independence Day, read our guide on how to celebrate the 4th of July in the USVI.

USVI 4th of July Events

There are several events on the 4th of July in the USVI. Let’s look at the most popular options.

St. John Carnival

Looking to celebrate the 4th of July in the USVI like a local? Attend St. John’s Carnival! One of the 5 Virgin Island carnival celebrations, the St. John Carnival is a festive event that celebrates independence and the Virgin Island’s incredible culture and history.

Visit Cruz Bay on our USVI itinerary, and head to Carnival Village. Early in the day, there are patriotic celebrations, live music, and snacks. Fireworks over the harbor cap off a magical 4th of July evening in the US Virgin Islands, making St. John Carnival the perfect place to celebrate.

Fireworks in St. Croix

Head to downtown Frederiksted, also known as Freedom City, to celebrate Independence Day on St. Croix VI. We recommend going to the waterfront early to grab some BBQ, chat with locals and tourists, and secure a spot to see the fireworks launch from the nearby Frederiksted Pier.

St Thomas Fireworks

If you want a more laid-back evening, celebrating on St. Thomas allows you to see smaller fireworks shows on the beach. There are also many restaurants and bars on the island, especially in Charlotte Amalie, where you can have a more intimate 4th of July celebration.

Where to Stay

The largest events are on St. John and St. Croix islands. There are many hotel options around the USVI, and you can find budget-friendly and luxury rentals. But sailing around the Virgin Islands with Go Sail VI offers the comfort of a hotel with the freedom and adventure of island hop by boat! Our private rooms have queen or king beds and full bathrooms, and many meals are taken care of.

What to Pack

When you book our liveaboard sailing courses, we set you up with the essentials you’ll need for sailing. We provide life jackets, and even offer many  meals on the house!

But there are a few things you’ll want to bring for the 4th of July, including:

  • A camera to capture the magic of the fireworks.
  • Raincoats, as it’s the beginning of hurricane season.
  • Water-resistant footwear.
  • Cash for food vendors.

What to Eat

A backyard BBQ doesn’t get much better than a 4th of July celebration in the Virgin Islands. Jerk chicken, grilled lobster, and BBQ ribs will all get you in the spirit to celebrate the holiday in the Caribbean. Pair your meal with some rum punch, a mocktail, or a local beer—it’s a party, after all!
