FAQ: Virgin Islands Travel Insurance
As you plan all the details for the perfect island vacation, don’t forget to consider purchasing Virgin Islands travel insurance. Travel insurance can be a smart investment that protects you and your property from the unexpected. To ensure your sailing trip is stress-free, we’ve answered some of your most common questions about Virgin Islands travel insurance:
Is Virgin Islands travel insurance included in my booking with Go Sail?
No, we do not provide insurance for our award-winning ASA courses or bareboat charters, however, we do have suggestions for what travel insurance to consider purchasing!
Do I need Virgin Islands travel insurance for my sailing vacation?
Go Sail Partners does not require travel insurance, nor is it mandated to enter either the USVI or the BVI. However, we strongly recommend purchasing Virgin Islands travel insurance to protect both your investment and your peace of mind. Travel insurance can cover the expense of unexpected issues such as cancellations, lost luggage, and emergency medical care, helping to alleviate the stress in difficult situations.
If I have to cancel my sailing trip due to unexpected circumstances, will I get a refund?
It depends on when you cancel. To see our full cancellation policy, click here. Our cancellation policy applies in every instance, and there will be no exceptions for any reason. This means that if you cancel thirty days or less before the day you set sail, even if it’s for reasons outside of your control, such as flight cancellations, illness, or unsafe weather conditions, you will be ineligible for a refund. Therefore, Virgin Islands travel insurance is strongly encouraged to cover you in these situations.
If someone on the boat is injured or our property is damaged, will Go Sail Partners compensate us?
Go Sail Partners is not liable for personal injury, emergency evacuation, or the loss or damage of personal equipment. Travel insurance is recommended to help with unforeseen expenses.
What should Virgin Islands travel insurance cover?
While comparing policies, ensure that the insurance you choose includes trip cancellation, medical coverage, emergency medical evacuations, baggage loss, and “cancel for any reason” policies. You can expect more comprehensive coverage with more costly plans.
Where should I purchase Virgin Islands travel insurance?
One of our favorite companies to use is TravelInsurance.com. We also recommend Allianz and Travel Guard. Please note that Go Sail Partners is not affiliated with any travel insurance companies.
Before shopping for a policy, check to see if you already have existing coverage through your homeowner’s insurance, which may provide some insurance for personal belongings while travelling. Likewise, many credit cards offer coverage when used to pay for your trip. However, both homeowners’ insurance and credit cards often exclude medical and evacuation coverage, so even if you have some protection from them, it is likely necessary to add a standalone travel insurance plan for complete coverage.
