In Memory of Christian

If you ever sailed with Christian, the first image that pops into your head may be of him behind a camera, capturing the incredible memories of everyone on board. A camera (or drone) was rarely far from his hands as he captured the people, places, and adventures all around him.

Christian tragically lost consciousness while out freediving with his camera, and despite efforts to save him, he passed away. We continue to hold his family, friends, and everyone who loved him close in our hearts as they navigate this unimaginable loss.

For those of us at Go Sail, Christian was a treasured part of our crew. To the people who sailed with him, he was also so much more than just another crewmember aboard the boat. 

He was kind.

He was curious.

He was full of stories, dreams, and plans for the future.

He had a joyful spirit that made people laugh, and a way of making even a short time together feel meaningful.

One guest recently shared that Christian “brought so much joy and light into our sailing adventure,” and that they were grateful for the opportunity to hear his stories and dreams for his future.

Another remembered him as an “absolute rock star,” someone whose adventures they followed long after their sailing trip with him. They followed his journeys tearing apart cars to riding motorcycles in the snow to building the boat of his dreams. 

And another family told us that Christian’s joyful spirit kept them laughing throughout their sailing trip. They still speak of him when they retell the story of their first sailing class.

These are the memories of Christian that we will hold tight to. 

We are grateful that so many of you were fortunate enough to cross paths with him, and for the memories he helped create that will continue to live on in all of you.

Perhaps it is fitting that Christian was so often the one behind the camera, capturing memories for everyone else. Now, those memories will help us hold onto him.

Christian, you will be deeply missed.
